Saga of Dad's Old Truck

When my Dad passed several years back now, I kept his old truck that he loved and gave his newer truck to my nephew. His old truck smelled like him and it was the one he drove the most. It has well over 200,000 miles on it and still runs fine. I let it sit up though because it hurt to drive it. I would go sit in it and think of him, but I couldn't drive it.

Then I realized it was ruining it to just sit there so I slowly started getting it back into shape. First I got new tires for it. Then a new battery and today, New rotors and breaks. Well when I got home from the shop, smoke was pouring off one of the back tries. I called them and they said that wasn't normal. Um, yeah, I figured that. So, I have to let it cool down and take it back tomorrow for them to look at. Once that is taken care of, I plan to drive it at least part of the time back and forth to work. It will help save mileage on my car.

Sitting in the truck makes me think of Dad, and I miss him but I feel closer to him when I'm driving it. I just hope the old thing makes it a few more years now that I've put the work into it. I like being able to climb up in it and go places.

Really, everything about the house makes me miss my parents since they lived here with me. The yard especially since they fixed it up like they wanted it. Dad built decks all over the place to sit and watch the traffic or just to talk. Once they even hooked up a TV and a fan to sit outside and drink tea while they watched gospel music under the shade tree. I have a picture of them doing that. Makes me laugh when I look at it.

I miss them. I guess I always will.

Their Forever Home

Vella's  decision on whether to accept Carver as her other husband will determine if Carver can stay at the compound or has to leave. How can she turn away from one of the men who saved her life not once, but twice and never showed her anything but kindness?

Outside of the compound winter is about to strike and few men would be able to survive it without having made preparations in advance. Seeing Carver walk out into the surrounding woods would surely break her. No. Vella loved him and if that meant overlooking the fact that he'd once been a member of the Bondsmen who'd killed her brother and the only family she'd had left then that was what she was prepared to do.

Find out what happens next in book thirteen of Men of the Border Lands. A new era has begun on an Earth ravaged by thousands of storms, fires, floods, and famine. The diseases that swept over the survivors afterwards finished off the remainder of the weak. Now all that was left were those nature deemed smart enough and  brave enough to have survived.

Available on pre-order now and officially released January 23rd at Bookstrand            http://bit.ly/1DS0ieT

Read an excerpt here:

“No more talk, guys,” Lance said as he settled between her legs once more. “I’m hungry and she’s lying here spread open like a feast before me. I’m not wasting one second of this.”
She gasped as Lance’s tongue flicked over her clit in rapid movements that had her digging her fingers into the blankets to the hard cave rock underneath. He sank two fingers into her cunt this time and as he pumped them and sucked on her clit, pressure built deep in her womb, yet the friction wasn’t quite enough. Vella lifted one hand and scratched down the center of Carver’s chest.
“Please. I need something. I’m so close already,” she pleaded.
Carver growled before taken one of her nipples in his mouth while squeezing the other with his fingers. His teeth worried the swollen nub even as he twisted the other nipple between his fingers. Vella exploded all over them.
“Yes!” she screamed. “Lance, so good. Carver. God, Carver!”
“Give it all to us, babe,” Carver demanded.
She couldn’t stop the tremors that racked her body as she slowly came down from the best orgasm of her life. If that felt that amazing, how much better would actual intercourse be? She was almost too worried to find out. Almost, but not quite enough to put a stop to their play.
Vella lay panting with her eyes closed. She didn’t have the energy to open them until someone covered her body with theirs. They snapped open at the barely there weight to find Carver staring down at her.
“I want a taste of you before Lance fucks you. That little taste wasn’t nearly enough to satisfy me, babe. I can see I’m going to spend a lot of time buried in your sweet pussy, Vella.” Carver claimed her mouth as only he could do.
The aggressive way he took control of the kiss from the very beginning turned her own in so many ways. The soft growl ramped up her arousal even though she’d just had an orgasm worth writing home about. Carver almost forced her to accept his tongue and the desperate attack it waged in her mouth. No spot was unclaimed as he slowly withdrew only to nibble on her lips before he pulled back to stare at her again.
Before she managed to ask him what he was looking at, Carver kissed and bit his way down her body until spread her legs even farther apart than Lance had. If he ate her pussy anything like how he kissed, Vella was pretty sure she’d come again. The man didn’t do anything half way or slow and easy.
“Fuck me, you smell like heaven,” Carver snarled just before he ran his tongue from slit to clit and back down again.
“Oh. My. God!” It was all she managed to get out before he’d stabbed her pussy with his thick tongue, fucking her with it like a battering ram.
Even as he penetrated her cunt with two fingers, Carver growled against her clit, sending sharp zings straight to her center. Vella was sure she was leaking her juices faster than he could lap them up. Her thighs felt wet from his mouth and her cream. She couldn’t remember the last time she’d gotten so turned on. She wasn’t even sure she ever had.
“So damn good, babe. I could lick your sweet juices all day,” he said in a growly voice.
“Come on, Carver. That’s enough. You’re going to have her so swollen I won’t be able to get inside of her without it being uncomfortable for her,” Lance said.
Vella sighed when Carver released her clit in both disappointment and dread. Lance was right, much more stimulation and she’d be too swollen for either one of them to get inside her. She really wanted that to happen. All three of them needed that connection to get started bonding.
Who am I kidding? I want to feel them inside of me. I can’t even begin to imagine what it will feel like to take them both at the same time.
If she were honest with herself, Vella would admit that she was a little frightened of trying that. She had no doubt that they would understand and go slow with her. She was sure Lance would and Carver would follow his lead.
“Damn you’re addictive, woman,” Carver said on a huff just before he moved back.
Vella wasn’t sure what to expect next. When Lance took her face in both of his hands she wanted to rub her cheeks against the callused palms. This felt right to her. The feel of his rough skin and the heat of his now nude body pressed against hers, skin to skin was nearly her undoing. The intimacy of the moment choked her up and without thinking about it, she reached out to Carver, needing to touch him as well.
For a second she didn’t think he would take her offered hand, but then his much larger hand enclosed hers. In that moment, a spark seemed to travel through them where they touched, linking them together just as Lance pressed his cock inside her wet slit.

Wow! Already December and I Haven't Even Put Away October Yet!

Hmmm. How did I let this happen? December sort of snuck up on me. I never saw it coming. I can't even remember November, except for the yummy dressing the other day. Days fly by pulling the entire month with them. Before we know it, an entire year is gone again. What do we have to show for it?

I have about 14 books and two short stories to show for the year, but what about life points? You know, the things that really matter. I've spent quality time with my brother and his family several times this past year. Could I have spent more time with them? Yeah. I could have.

I've spent some wonderful days with my parents this year. I love having them here with me. Not only are they fun to be with and help me in so many ways, but watching just how much they love each other keeps the love alive in my heart, too. I wish I'd spent more time with them earlier in the year instead of some of the trips I took. I didn't realize just how quickly things change.

I refuse to regret anything because it adds to who I am, but I can feel sad for some of the opportunities I've missed or blown off; for the time I wasted when I should have been writing spending time with friends and family; for decisions I've made that weren't all that smart.

So, looking ahead, I plan to do things a little differently this coming year. I did this last year and the year before. No matter how many times I do this, I always end up missing something I should have seen coming.

So for the end of 2014 as it tops the hill on its way down, don't have regrets, don't think the what ifs. Spend some time thinking about what you want out of life for next year and then make plans on how to get there. You may not get there the first time you try, but if you keep regrouping and looking at where you got off track, you will eventually get to where you are supposed to be.

I'm going to introduce whoever out there is reading this to what hope looks like to me right now. Her name is Maggie and she's a kitten. When I found her, she was about 4 or 5 weeks old and entirely different than what she looks like now.

Isn't she cute? A tiny ball of fur and great big eyes. She was such a sweet kitty who had a rough start in life. Something had tried to eat her and she had a massive abscess from one side of her neck through to just above her chest. We got that all cleaned up and she turned into a whirlwind of energy after that.

Now she is about 4 months old and she looks so much different than she did.

Yep, that's her tongue sticking out.

So where am I going with all of this? This hope I was talking about? Well, she brought hope into our house when she came to live with us. My mom took one look at her and smiled—really smiled for the first time in a long time. Now the house revolves around Maggie or "my baby" as mom refers to her. Seeing that
smile and how the kitten keeps her engaged and happy is seeing hope reflected in my mom's eyes. Taking care of the kitten gives her one more reason to get up each morning and brave the pain and near blindness that colors her world grey. Only now, there is a streak of color that captivates her each day and I call it Hope.

Thanskgiving Blessings and Writing the Next Page

No matter who we are or where we are in our lives, we all have something to be thankful for. Even in my darkest days when I thought there was no hope for me, I was thankful that my family was safe and alive.

When I found myself losing hope again, I reminded myself of where I was thirty years ago then twenty years ago, and that I still had hope. Then I think of the friend who lost her child; the solider I met who lost both of his legs and then his wife; the stranger I met who slept in an abandoned car in the junk yard. Yet he blessed me and offered to share his coffee that day.

Why am I writing this for you or anyone or no one to read? Because no matter where I am in life, I have something to be thankful for. It might not seem like it at times, but there is always someone who has less to be thankful for than me. This is my reminder to myself that there will always be tough times, but they aren't important. It's how you decide to handle them that is really important. Writing it down reminds me of this and thorough writing it I remember and smile and am thankful once again.

Because I've been in many of the same situations as others who feel they have nothing, I feel that I can talk about it and not be assuming in what I have to say. Attitude changes everything. I could have accepted that I had nothing and felt like I was nothing. I would have continued in that direction and ended up on drugs, street corners and panhandling at intersections. Because I refused to be a useless waste of space, I changed my attitude and demanded that people see me. I made jobs for myself until I was able to get one honestly.

It didn't stop there. It will never stop there. Once you reach some of your dreams, if you settle back and ride the waves instead of continuing to paddle the board, you'll end up crashing again. And I have, several times. To this end, I am a constantly growing human being who makes mistakes, bad choices, and poor decisions. I will have to work at my life every single day that I'm still able. I can't expect it to coast along without giving it a push now and then.

So I write the next page. I keep putting my thoughts, ideas, and dreams down on paper, forming sentences, paragraphs, and chapters until I've created another dream, another fantasy that I hope helps someone out there handle another day where all hope seems lost. For a little while when I'm in that world, building it up and giving it life, I to can forget the pain of watching my parents decline and the pain of loneliness. For that moment, I have my book friends and all is right with me.

It's never hurts to hide for a while and lose ourselves in a story as long as we don't make it the reality of our lives. Use it to regroup, refuel, and strengthen your resolve to find one more thing to be thankful for. Then take a step in a new direction in the pursuit of your dreams.

I wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving and pray that you have more to be thankful for than you realized when you first started thinking about it. Tell at least one someone today that you appreciate them, love them, or are richer for having met them. Not only are you boosting yourself, but you make someone else feel good at the same time. Seeing a smile on someone's face that you helped to put there is the headiest drug in the world.

Peace and Abundant Blessings to you and your family and friends.
