Is it Really Spring?

I sure hope it doesn't fool me. Yeah, there are still some cold mornings, but the days are nice and warm out. Nice enough to sit outside and enjoy. I've even carried Maggie, one of the feline muses out on the front porch to enjoy the evening warmth. Naturally she wants to explore and not sit in my lap.

Currently I'm working on a Menage Mountain book. I have a biker book floating around in the back of my head though that is eating at me. Not sure if it will collate into the next book or not yet. I'll let you know when I finish this book. I've also been thinking about another book in the Planet Alpha books. It's been a while since I've written one of them. It's a crap shoot what my head will finally settle on though.

Cooler Days Ahead

I'm so happy today. The weather is much cooler this morning. I loved getting out in it to run my errands. It's supposed to last a few days, then back to the heat for a little while longer. Here in the South we don't get a true winter. We get an extended fall with maybe some freezing weather for a few days. Might be time for a trip to the mountains to experience the cold. I love the Smokey Mountains.

A long weekend in a cabin with a nice view and plenty of time to write sounds wonderful. I'd take a nice walk every morning and write the rest of the day. Yes, that sounds like a great plan to me.

I'm working on three different books right now. The main one is the Space Station One book. The next book is a sequel to the last Men of the Borderlands book and the third one is an entirely different book for my alter-ego. I'll share more about all of them as I finish them.

Ellie's Wounded Heroes - Soon! In the meantime...

Hey everyone! Hope you're amped and ready for my newest series, Wounded Warriors.  The first edition, Ellie's Wounded Heroes, is scheduled to be released on April 18!  I think it will be on pre-order soon, hopefully next week.

Just in case anyone needs a little more information, I have an alternate description for Ellie's Wounded Heroes! Just for fun, I'll include both.

The original:

Rex is a disabled veteran who ended up with part of his leg amputated after a roadside bombing. He also had a severe head injury and suffers from extreme short term memory loss that leaves him waking up to a new day every day. His friend, Clark suffers from PTSD and bouts of dark depression that are nearly debilitating at times. Neither man feels that they have anything to offer a woman but while Rex has abstained form dating, Clark tends to date them on a short term basis.

When Rex meets Ellie, he’s instantly attracted to the pretty social worker and asks her to go out with him. At the last minute, his nerves overwhelm him and he asks Clark to join them for moral support. To his surprise they hit it off as well.

In the meantime, Clark asks Rex for help finding a safe place for a family in an abusive home. Rex offers one of his rental houses and they enlist Ellie’s help to convince the mother to leave.

The move doesn’t go as they had planned and when Rex’s injured leg fails him, it’s Clark who steps in to save Ellie and in turn is stabbed in the chest. Ellie learns the extent of Rex’s war injuries as well as the dark depression that Clark suffers as a result of his service while they help Clark recover from the attack.

Rex realizes that individually, neither of them would be able to keep Ellie happy and safe, but together, they could have the family they all want. He sets out to convince Clark then together they convince Ellie to give them a chance. She’s unsure if such a relationship can work, but knows that she loves them both too much to walk away from one of them much less both and agrees to be their wife.

The Alternate:

When the heroes feel more like zeroes, it's time to bring in reinforcements. Enter Ellie, a social worker with a passion for fixing others. Or at least finding ways to ease the troubles of others. When she meets Rex, he looks like a typical bad boy, motorcycle and all. She has no idea that her passion for helping others is about to change Rex's life forever.

Rex, a disabled veteran with extreme short term memory loss, lives his life by leaving himself notes. His friend and fellow veteran Clark helps him as much as he can, but his own PTSD and deep depression sometimes does more damage than good. When Rex gets a date with a sexy social worker, Clark is super supportive of his friend that hasn't had a date in years. Going along with him wasn't in the plan, but he'd do anything to boost Rex's morale.

On the date, everyone has confused emotions. It would seem that Ellie enjoys the company of both men, and it doesn't help that they're both sexy as hell. Clark mirrors Ellie's thoughts, but he would never get in the way of Rex's chance at happiness. Can the three of them realize that it will take all of them to make it work?

The Importance of Feeding Your Human

Sometimes we get all caught up with research, plotting, and writing to the point that we forget that the human side of us needs a break sometimes. No matter how much we eat, live, and breathe writing, there comes a time that we all need something different for a change. For some of us, we naturally take periodic breaks to relax, read something fun, watch a fun movie, or take a family vacation without the computer. Yeah, right. Not happening here either.

My poor human side gets very little time away from writing. The time I do take usually still has something to do with writing in some form or fashion. For example, I’m going on a long weekend out of town where I will meet up with my writers group that I’m a member of and discuss writing as well as catch up on how everyone is doing. I’ll also take some time to visit a couple of friends that don’t write but always in the back of my mind is that part of me that is cataloguing everything in case I can use it later in a book.

 

Even after I’ve visited with my friends, I’ll be going back to my hotel room to write. I’d never get any sleep if I didn’t write some before going to bed. It’s a habit so engrained in me now that if I try to break it, I fear I’d go insane. What will happen when I’m too old to see well enough to write or have such bad arthritis that I can’t hold a pen or use a keyboard? My mind will slowly implode. Then again, maybe I’ll just go happily into that amazing world inside my brain and live out the remainder of my days there.

The point is that if I didn’t do something to relieve some of the constant pressure to write, write, write, I would go stale and my writing would ultimately suffer. Just feeding my muse all the new things I find for it isn’t enough. The human side of us has to be, well, human at times. Remember, we might drive the obsessions, the passions, and the finance side of things, but our human is only human and if he or she gets sick, we all suffer.

 

So remember to feed your human different ideas, experiences, and other human interaction. Becoming a monk or, in my case, a hermit at times, isn’t a good thing. As much as I would love to bury myself in a little cabin in the woods with damn good satellite Internet but not much else, just so I could write uninterrupted, it would eventually lead to my demise as an author and ultimately as a human.

Find something that gets you out of your little hidey-hole at least two or three times a year and take advantage of it. Keep your muse looking and smelling fresh so that your writing remains exciting and unique to you.

Monday Blues on Sunday Night

Yep, it's Sunday evening and I'm wishing it were Friday already. I've got a good job, but it takes me away from what I love to do, reading and writing. We all would rather be doing something else besides working. Still, it provides me with more than insurance and vacations. Sometimes when I'm working, a brilliant idea for a book will pop into my head and I pull out my trusty notebook to quickly write it down before it drifts away from me. Then I spend the next twenty minutes trying to get back into whatever I was working on. That idea is bubbling in my subconscious, daring me to stop and give it life. I fight it, but it is persistent.

Once I get home and am sitting at my computer, the damn thing plays hide and seek with me. Grrrrr. I bet a lot of you have that problem out there as well. I can just about touch it and just as soon as my brain locates it, the thing slips away again. Aghghg. 

I move on to something else until time for bed. Then when I climb into bed and pull the covers up, the blasted idea sneaks out to taunt me. Sleep or write, sleep or write.....

So, the next day, I'm nodding at my desk and trying not to snore so that anyone hears me when my boss decides to spend the day in our building. Yep, writers have sucky days too.

What am I working on? Right now, it's a book in the River Bend, Texas Heat series. Angela is just about to start working for Travis and Randy Woods. She is going to be their office manager/bookkeeper on their ranch. Wonder what the guys have planned for her?

Pigeon Forge, TN I Love it Here!

I'm still in Pigeon Forge and having so much fun. I've been over to Gatlinburg as well and have had so much fun. There is so much to do here! I can't wait to come back.

I'm already outlining a series to be set here in the area. The Smokey Mountains are gorgeous and offer so much to do. I can just see my characters living here. What do you all think about that?

I'm also getting plenty of writing in while I'm here. The second book in They Knights in Black Leather series is just about finished. The heroine, Stacey Addison and her men, Steve and Ben Tyler are fighting their love and need for each other. I'm on pins and needles to see them finally admit they are meant to be together.

I See A Book Ahead of Me!

Well, I finally made it to Pigeon Forge, TN in the Smokey Mountains. It is absolutely gorgeous here even in the winter. I've already got a few ideas for a book and can't wait to get started on fleshing it out. I really needed this mini-vacation. I brought along all sorts of um, research material. ;-)

Be thinking of me everyone. They say there is an ice storm coming and I don't want to loose power and not be able to write when my battery goes down. Wouldn't that be crazy!  I am here to write and relax.

I hope to do a little exploring while I'm here as well to use in a book. I think it would be fun to base one out of this area. I'm going to do some serious plotting and thinking over it. One of the things I want to do is look at some of the park here and read up on the animals and such. There are so many things to do and so little time.

Okay, time to get started relaxing. LOL  I'll keep in touch while I'm here and let you know what I'm doing.
